Looks like there is still is some magic left at the K. The Royals
scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the White Sox 9-7
leaving over 41000 fans delirously happy and the White Sox in shock.
Mendy Lopez, of all people hit a 3 run game-tying homerun in the
bottom of the 9th. Future Yankee Great Carlos Beltran then hit a 2 run
game winning walkoff homer to win the game. All day it looked like the
Royals were overmatched, against the power laden lineup of the Sox.
Brian Anderson did not look impressive, giving up 5 runs in 5 innings
and two Homeruns included. Santiago and Gonzalez both went 2-4. The
big play of the day was Mendy Lopez pinc-hitting. With Koch on the
mound, Pena sent up Matt Stairs, then countered with Lopez when the
Sox called in Marte. Pena knew that Lopez had seen Marte in winterball
and also that Lopez had been driving the ball lately. Just Saturday,
Lopez hit a 3 run homer in Houson the last exhibition game. Just a
great piece of managing by Pena. I know it is early, but this win
means a lot. The win reinforces all the work the Royals did last year.
proves to the new players on the team that something good can happen
here, and sends over 41000 fans home happy . Those 41000 will leave
with a strong desire to be back. Baseball season is a long drawn out
affair. This is one win of an estimated 88-90 wins needed to win the
